OPUS is now live on the Ethereum main network! After months of hard work, groundbreaking development, and constant support from our community, we have launched our platform on the mainnet.

The path to where we are now has been quite the ride, with lots of news, milestones, and growth along the way. Let’s take a brief moment to look at how we got here.

The beginnings of OPUS

In the summer of 2017, with massive support from our community, OPUS was born. With our roadmap launched and the founders motivated to deliver on the goals set out in the whitepaper, OPUS began expanding its team and figured out how to approach the task of building the first ever decentralized music streaming service.

OPUS started on-boarding several artists interested in this revolutionary platform which was presented in the form of a demo — a rare feature of most blockchain projects — and also took part in public events to promote the platform, such as the Music Export Conference in 2017.

Towards the end of 2017, OPUS established its first office in Gdansk, with a highly-skilled team of developers ready to take on this mission.

Adapting OPUS to changing environments

With all the pieces in place to deliver the OPUS player, we closely analyzed the industry in which we operate and, in an effort to adapt and to appeal to the greatest possible number of fans and artists, we modified our model somewhat to accommodate streaming. This strategic move was welcomed by fans and musicians alike, as was reflected in the growing number of artists that joined OPUS.

In 2018, the marketing strategy at OPUS began ramping up its publicity by sponsoring and attending various conferences around the world: NAC3 in New York, Blockyard in our home city of Gdansk, or the Blockchain Summit in London. These appearances helped us grow our network and meet prominent figures in the world of blockchain, ultimately providing us with additional knowledge and insight into our project.

A big milestone was reached in the first half of 2018, when we announced the launch of the platform, which was released later in the year on the testnet, giving us the opportunity to test all the features of the platform in a real-world setting.

While the testing of the platform was happening, we continued to look to expand our team by hiring developers, while also releasing a new whitepaper to reflect the changes in our model — building on our initial whitepaper, we laid out key concepts and frameworks used within the platform to share some of the impressive technological feats we have achieved with our community.

OPUS gaining traction

In terms of publicity, perhaps our biggest event to date was Blockchain NeXt, which we co-organized and which turned out as the largest blockchain conference in the CEE region, with over 600 attendees, 100 partners, 40 keynote speakers, and 20 startups all coming together at the National Stadium in Warsaw. The OPUS branding helped to establish us as one of Central Europe’s leaders in blockchain and putting the OPUS name out there for the world to see, as well as expanding our network across the music and blockchain industry, and providing us with the opportunity to meet with leaders of these various sectors while we were still in the process of exploring the best blockchain solutions for the platform.

This conference increased our hunger to deliver on all our promises. We began working significantly with AI to perfect our song suggestion algorithms, and redesigned our website — which can frequently make or break a visitor’s first impression of the company — to a crisp new design.

The final stretch

With everything going in our favor, OPUS began its final stretch, ultimately leading us to the mainnet launch.

In line with our redesigned website and our philosophy that the user interface is a key factor in satisfying our users, we overhauled our web platform to a design that has proven to be more intuitive and fresh.

Furthermore, having launched our mobile apps for both iOS and Android, we ensured that their design followed in the same vein as that of the web player, to guarantee seamless transitions from mobile to web, and vice versa.

More recently, we also decided to adapt our strategy to attract clients in the form of other business, by announcing our OpenAPI Partner Platform, which allows other startups to base their own players on the technology we developed.

OPUS Mainnet

With a short view to the past completed, we are now ready to look to the future, which looks brighter than ever for OPUS. Naturally, our development does not end here. We aim to continually adapt and grow our platform to appeal to an increasingly greater fanbase, as we take on some of the biggest players on the music streaming market with our revolutionary tech.
