OPUS New Web Player progress
OPUS is getting ever so close to launching on the Ethereum main network.
These past few weeks we have been working hard on the new web platform that will see a complete overhaul of the current player — everything from the frontend design to the backend optimization of the code (which was revealed in this update). This progress is incredibly important before we end up launching on the Ethereum main network because it is crucial to adapt these web platform changes to the changes we introduced on the mobile apps, both for Android and iOS.
Optimizing the platform does not only entail working on the code, it also means moving to new servers within the next few days and weeks that have a greater number of nodes. This kind of move requires a certain degree of preparation, which is what we have partially been working on these past several weeks.
First of all, we have moved to the IBM infrastructure, which is preferred by our developers and gives us greater efficiency and flexibility in the future. This switch was logistically a very complex operation that required us to move our infrastructure onto new systems. Secondly, the speed of running the OPUS platform will increase significantly as we are establishing twice as many nodes as we currently have in North America, and another twice as many in both Europe and Asia. The speed increase will be noticed in particular in areas such as the synchronization of files on IPFS.
All these changes that we have been working on over the past weeks have created a platform that is close to what we will see on the Ethereum main network: a fully functioning, smooth music streaming player that is ready to be scaled. In fact, scaling is one of the top priorities in a project of this nature because a music player relies on having many users online simultaneously.
Artists
Moving onto the less technical but still vital aspects of the development of our platform, we are ready to onboard a huge number of artists now. Indeed, we have hired a new team responsible for artist outreach and the growth of our online library — more on this can be found here. We expect more and more artists to join in the coming weeks.
Naturally, bringing more artists on board does go hand in hand with the technical side of the development; for one, we have improved our admin panel so as to get a broader picture of all the artists who have already joined OPUS and to increase the efficiency of managing such a large roster.
The development continues…
Meanwhile, as our graphic designers worked hard to deliver this redesign, our developers continue working on the OPUS platform. There will be more updates in the coming weeks letting you know what has been done and what still needs doing.
Lots of credit can be given to our amazing community for your continued support and help in locating errors in our platform. Our entire team at OPUS would be highly appreciative if you could continue assisting us with this by submitting anything you find on Freshdesk.
