At Opus, we know that a project of this magnitude does not rely just on flawless development, but also on constantly reviewing and adapting our plans and goals, and on listening to feedback from our potential partners, advisers, and most of all, our community.

In our whitepaper we described how on our platform we want to include a ‘buy-to-own’ model of purchasing songs, wherein a user can pay for a song one time and then listen to it anytime, anywhere. Our potential partners, advisors, and community have all suggested to consider a streaming model, where users can pay a regular fee, for example every month, to use the platform and stream as many songs as they wish. We found this idea very interesting, so around three months ago, our team started researching this issue in depth. During this time, our community kept emphasizing that a streaming model would be the optimal solution and that this is something they would like to see on the finished platform.

Following our extensive research, both from a technological and from a business perspective, we began to notice that in 2018, streaming seems to be the best long-term solution and the most popular trend. We had many lengthy discussions on this topic and brainstormed all sorts of ways to include this in our platform, until finally reaching the conclusion that adopting a streaming model is not only technologically possible, but will also ensure the best possible experience for the user.

Music streaming is quickly becoming the most popular option for users, with 51% of music revenues in the US totalling at $2.48b coming from streaming. Our research has shown that this is the best option for Opus. Source: https://www.statista.com/chart/5152/music-streaming-subscribers/

We will include a streaming option in the Opus platform and move on from the idea of ‘buy-to-own’. This decision is not something we took lightly, but this is the correct way to proceed for the good of this project and the constant improvement of the development. We will continue listening to our community and we will be looking closely at the reaction to this news so as to better understand the needs of our future users. A project of this magnitude is, after all, a community effort, and we rely heavily on feedback from everyone involved.

We would like to thank everyone enthusiastic about our vision and engaged in this project for your continued support, and we look forward to receiving more feedback and suggestions.
